Cultural Background: Cook's Ferry Indian Band from the Nl'ha7kapmx Nation

I was born in 1972 in the heart of British Columbia and spent most of my young life in the beautiful little town of Spences Bridge and in downtown Vancouver. I first picked up a pencil for my first drawing that hung on Auntie Bunnie’s fridge when I was eight. I am mostly self-taught with some instruction in high school art classes. I grew up in a large family with humble beginnings and started my career selling artwork page-by-page from my sketchbook.

My style has been referred to as Modern Native Art. My work is largely pencil crayon drawings with some acrylic on canvas paintings reflecting wildlife with my own personal touch of aboriginal influence, creating a spectacular and breathtaking portfolio.

Over the past couple of years I have expanded my portfolio to include colourful drawings, some black and grey work and a beautiful display of painting on canvas. I take great pride in my heritage and like to incorporate a little Aboriginal Education in every work of art I create. Some pieces focus on the Great Chiefs of the Northwest such as Sitting Bull and Geronimo.

Je suis né en 1972 au cœur de la Colombie-Britannique et j’ai passé la plupart de ma jeune vie dans la belle petite ville de Spences Bridge et au centre-ville de Vancouver. Pour mon premier dessin, j’ai d’abord pris un crayon qui pendait sur le réfrigérateur de ma tante Bunnie quand j’avais huit ans. Je suis particulièrement autodidacte avec une certaine instruction dans les cours d’art d’école. J’ai grandi dans une grande famille modeste et j’ai commencé ma carrière en vendant des œuvres d’art, page par page, de mon carnet de croquis.

Mon style fait référence à l’Art Natif Moderne. En grande partie des dessins au crayon avec peinture en acrylique sur toile reflétant la faune avec ma touche personnelle de l’influence autochtone, créant ainsi un portfolio spectaculaire et à couper le souffle.

Au cours des deux dernières années, j’ai élargi mon portfolio en y incluant des dessins colorés avec un peu de noir et gris et une superbe vitrine de peintures sur toiles. Je suis très fier de mon héritage et souhaite intégrer un peu d’éducation autochtone dans toute œuvre d’art que je crée. Certaines pièces se concentrent sur les grands chefs du Nord-Ouest tels que Sitting Bull et Geronimo.
