Robert Jones

Western Canadian artist, Robert Jones, started painting in 1985 after he developed an interest in art and architectural illustration. He was an illustrator for six years and had the opportunity to develop skills in architectural layout, water media and airbrush techniques.

Robert was born and raised on Vancouver’s North Shore, which instilled in him a great love of the outdoors and the natural beauty it encompasses. Whether it be sailboats on coastal waters, skier’s on Whistler’s slopes, or alpine meadows in the Canadian Rockies, Robert finds the spirit of the west to be his focal point and inspiration.

Robert’s painting process is a time consuming but effective task. First, he photographs and conceives the image, then breaks the scene down to it’s basics, interpreting the landscape into graphic shapes with a deliberate approach to detail. Drawing first in pencil, then piece by piece masking and airbrushing in acrylic, building the smooth, rich cascade of color into a wonderful landscape with a final high-lighting of brushwork. Utilizing color in thin layers and in the most intense and brilliant shades, saturates the work and gives the impression that they are lit up from behind.

Robert Jones, un artiste de l’Ouest du Canada, a commencé à peindre en 1985 quand il s’est interessé à l’illustration architecturale et artistique. Il a travaillé en tant qu’illustrateur pendant six ans et il a developpé ses connaissances sur les techniques de plans architecturaux, de peinture à l’eau et d’aérographie.

Ayant grandi sur la côte Nord de Vancouver, Robert a un profond amour des espaces et de leur beauté naturelle. Qu’il s’agisse de faire de la voile sur la côte, de skier sur les pentes de Whistler ou les prairies des Rocheuses, Robert trouve son inspiration dans cette essence de l’Ouest.

La façon dont peint Robert prend beaucoup de temps mais elle reste très efficace. Il commence tout d’abord par photographier et créer l’image, ensuite, en insistant sur les details, il la simplifie tant que possible en transposant le paysage en formes graphiques. Il dessine premièrement au crayon, puis cachant certaines zones il recouvre son travaille d’acrylique en utilisant un aérographe. Ceci forme petit-à-petit de riches cascades de couleurs donnant naissance à de merveilleux paysages au fini brossé. Enfin, il utilise des fines couches de peinture de couleurs vives créant un magnifique effet de lumière en fond de toile.
